Back in 1992 at the dawn of Drop Bass Network when we were a rave promoter, the tag line at the end of our map point voicemails and on a lot our flyers was "keep the sound underground and rave on". We used this same tag line when we started the record label in 1994.

Here we are 30 years later (THIRTY YEARS!) and it seems only fitting for these backstock vinyl packs that we use that tagline to both honor our past, but also because for the past 15 years these records have literally been underground...in a basement.

More info about the condition of this NEW OLD STOCK is after the list of releases. So is the full story on why we still have these records.

Some of these releases there are less than 100 of and once those are gone we'll revise the pack and the price. Here's what's included now...

Notes on their grading or condition:

- This is WAY more than you probably care to know, but we want you to have all the info like you might get if you were buying from Discogs.

- These records are all NEW OLD STOCK still in the original shrink wrap from the pressing plant.

- The catalog numbers under 60 are repressings and the rest are original first pressings.

- The records were all in their original sealed boxes from the plant and stored on palettes off the floor in a somewhat climate controlled basement at our Devilerance Kompound. When we got them out they did have that "basement smell", but we moved and aired them out since summer 2021. They are a lot better now.

- The vinyl itself should be mint since they are unopened from the pressing plant and never played. However, this was a small plant in Detroit and nothing is ever perfect. Additionally, they've been in storage in a basement. We've inspected samples from every box and they are like new. Having said that, you should probably still give them a quick cleaning before you play.

- There are three types of sleeves and each has a different condition.

dbn58-67: These are custom printed sleeves that have a matte finish and they are pretty much in new condition.

dbn38, 53, 68-70: These are generic black sleeves with a gloss finish and were a little more susceptible to any moisture that might have been absorbed from the air. Some of them have a little light mildew dust under the shrinkwrap. 69 is a little worse than the others. Remove and toss the shrinkwrap, then wipe the sleeve down with a damp cloth and you'll be good to go.

dbn54: This was a generic white sleeve and those boxes were on the bottom and probably absorbed more moisture which shows a lot more on white. We'll pick out the best ones first, but either way you should probably just open and toss the sleeves.

NOTE! as we get deeper into these boxes the best plain black and white sleeves are gone. the ones that are left we'll still ship in the shrinkwrap if we can, but if they are real bad they will come without the sleeve. the vinyl itself is still good though.

- The labels are all perfect, except 66.6 some were bubbled on one side when it was originally pressed or some have two labels stuck together. That's what we get for flirting with the devil.

The story why we have these goes like this...

Back in 2000/01 things started to go to hell in the vinyl business. The introduction of the Euro, digital music, and 9/11 all played a factor. Adam X has some great thoughts about this in his Trainwrecks podcast at the 1hr 19min mark (soundcloud.com/dustin-zahn/tw005-adam-x?in=dustin-zahn/sets/train-wrecks-podcast-ft-dustin).

We were selling less of each new release than we did in the 90s, but we found our niche in the back catalog. With every new title we'd repress several of the old ones. The new ones were still making money, but the back catalog was doing really great.

Then more stores started closing and more importantly the main dance distributors on the East Coast started shutting down one by one...first Syntax then Nemesis then Watts in 2006. It was a mess and we were owed A LOT of money.

We tried two more releases and those went mostly direct to US stores and to France and the UK. Even though they sold ok it was a lot more work getting paid from stores directly. If we got paid. The writing was on the wall and we shut the label down with a few thousand unsold records.

Fast forward 6 years and we started to do merch again. In 2016 we brought back Even Furthur and started doing more event production. Then FINALLY in 2019 we started the process of digitizing the backcatalog and remastering 300 and some tracks for this Bandcamp page.

Last summer JiggyJamz Record store in Madison, WI asked about the records in the basement to see about getting some for the July record store day. We made up some of these vinyl packs as a special promotion and they almost sold out before the store even opened that day!

The idea was born and we needed to make them available to anyone who wants them. There's also maybe 500 valuable rare DBN records as well. The plan is to eventually get those up on here or a Discogs page by summer. We also found about 25 of the DBN071 double pack we need to make covers for and can't wait to sell! Stay tuned.
